How does Crime Stoppers Work?

Crime Stoppers takes information regarding crimes or criminal activity from anonymous "tipsters" and provides that to law enforcement.  Currently, that information comes in through the nationwide phone number, 800-222-TIPS (8477) or though WebTips on any Internet connected computer.  Recently we added the ability to take information in through Text Messaging.  The Tip Status Line of 620-326-3135 is utilized to check on the status of a previously submitted tip.  This is answered Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.  The coordinator disseminates the tips to the appropriate law enforcement agency for investigation.  If that investigation leads to an arrest, the tipster may be illegible for a cash reward.  The rewards are determined by the Crime Stoppers Board, not law enforcement.
The main objective of Crime Stoppers is to safeguard the anonymity of the tipsters.  We don't want to know who you are, just what information you have.   This way, you don't have to worry about court or reprisal.
